Introduction

This is a combination of four pagan texts, you can choose from:

   
• Random Havamal Verse
• Random Wiccan Rede Verse
• Random Witch's Law Verse
• Random Thelema Quotation

Or if you wish to show them all this is also possible.

The mod combines all the files into 1 language file and gives users the option of displaying what verse they would like to display.

This mod is designed for a Pagan Community.

A very big thank you goes to IchBin for updating this mod so that it makes no file edits and so that it works with all portals!!

Thank you Fussilet it has actually been available for ages on my own site, just felt it was time to get more people interested in it, my site has many mods and themes taht arent available on here.

I had the rede for 1.1.16 but now that I have 2.0.2 I would like to install it again...however,

I have downloaded it several times and tried to install it but as you can see this is the error I get--please see image

I checked the files and this is what it is looking for in the boarddir/index.php:

// Action and board are both empty... BoardIndex!

this does not appear in the file at all.

How to fix?

can you attach you index.php please, I just tested on my 2.0.2 forum and it works fine, so I am guessing that a mod has removed that line.

try this, the issue is that TinyPortal removes that line.  I havent tested this and I refuse to install a crap portal just for testin it

that's fine, I tried it by overwriting the one on the server with this one and it just will not show up at all.

I will just uninstall it and transfer the lines to images and have a banner that rotates with them...all is good but thanks anyway.

yes, installed mod, got error about the index file hit install anyway.

then uploaded the one you supplied and overwrote the installed one...was I not supposed to?

hmm its pissing me off thats why ... should use a decent portal like Simple Portal ... works with that

well for some odd reason no matter what it won't show and it is frustrating when it should but decides not to. but tis ok, really. I have had TP since day 1 five or so years ago and sorta know how to wrangle it to behave...I am weird, I like it...lol

If you want to keep trying tis fine I will test the file but don't hurry on my account.

but right now I went to one of the category topics and lo and behold there is the  little centered block showing up but

on the default smf theme it is in a boundary box centered but in the theme I have for to show (BlazeDark) it is not centered and it is not in a boundary box...prefer it not centered...

so is it supposed to show in main forum page or just the category---would love it in the main forum page only

yes text displays, placed the css code into the themes css file so that it is showing on the dark back with nice red border too.

but tis only when you leave the main board page that you see it...in the individual boards only.

I believe that the problem is indeed your portal mod...

The issue is that the portal mod assumes control of the "home" page....   and, in some cases, it appears that this assumption screws up several mods that target the same area or use that area of code to set themselves.

i.e. Every portal mod that I have tried (except ADK Portal) kills the ADK Blog mod
I know that the random verse mod works with SimplePortal and EZPortal...   I don't know about ADKPortal, PortaMX or Tiny Portal

Yes, the problem is indeed that the portal assumes control of the section where an action is not set. SimplePortal will have the same exact problem. The problem will show in at least SP, TP, and PMX from what I recall of how they work. 

I guess those portals are "crap" too? ...

Either way, this could be fixed in this mod if it was wrote using hooks. Wouldn't even require file edits if it did.

IchBin, bad news for you this mod works fine with SimplePortal or it did when I tested it.  So please chillax.

And I dont think all portals are crap ... just the ones you have touched

Actually no it doesn't work with simple portal. It has the same effect on SP that darkangel was indicating that it had on TP. I just tested SP, TP, and PortaMx. And the mod behaves the same on all of them as I mentioned it probably would. While the install problem was because of TP removing the comment, the problem with your quotes for this mod displaying is what I'm referring to.

If you'd like I can show you a way to code this so it would work on any site without having to worry about file edits.

Check it out Runic. This why hooks are so cool! No file edits required now. Credit goes to Emanuele for the cool do_hooks.php code though. The rest is just a matter of knowing what the hook does and how it's used.

Although I'm not sure if you intended the quotes to show on all pages, that's what it does for now. You can throw in some checks to avoid that if people want though. Anyway, here's the zip.

YES! It now shows on all pages which is ok and all I had to do was find the proper places to add the apostrophe's, additional breaks and give border/color of box/font size....you know just a few tweaks.

kyhk: out of curiosity what do you feel needs changed in the Havamal, these are the english translations from the words of Odin (browsers wouldnt accept it written in runescript), so I am unsure why you would wish to insult Odin and change his words.

I added my own text in PaganVerse.english.php at Havamal please, but still showing original Havamal messages. what is wrong?

are you using the other verses or just that 1?

If just that 1 then you need to change the code aswell in paganvervse.template

look for

I just reopened Ask A Witch Community...

I don't want this to load at the top of the forum...  I'd like it to load the verse into a portal block.... 
Unfortunately, if I turn on any of the options, it shows at the top of the forum (one of the problems with hooks)

So...   how about a portal block version?
