How do I make smilies exactly? What sizes do they have to be and how do I get them on my forum?

i was then going to ask a similar question
on the slightly older vs rc3 i had the ability to add smiley's into my existing set very easily

but i've just installed a new forum with the latest Vs and there's no option to upload new smiley's??

any ideas how to do it pls

i managed to figure out how to upload them
i done a search thru and finally found a solution

what i did was done a search thru giggle and found ones i liked saved them to my pc then uploaded them using admin centre and hey presto

if you want to make ur own just save a smilie and copy the sizes/file etc simples

I want to make my own, so basicly, I make them using photoshop and then save them in a folder, but how do I upload them? What size do I save them from photoshop :S?

i dont think there has to be a set size unless you want to keep them the same size as the existing ones.

you need to make sure they in the correct folder, right click get their properties and put the images where they need to be.

The images are in the correct folder ( Smilies ) I made a directory and added all of them there :S What did I forget :S

you need to put them in the same folder as the ones that are showing.

Yep, they are all in the same folder.

but you know the ones that are not showing? They have a weird url... as I did not even upload a 'wink.gif' file... There was no smily with wink so why did it randomly do wink :S

those are the default smilies so put those with the rest of them

So wait, On the link able it says make a new directory, and uploaded all the smilies in there, so how did the default smilies get there :S

they are installed by default that is why they are still there, if you dont want them they delete them from the admin panel.

Basically, smilies can be any size you want - and pretty much any working image type you can think of.

To add your own smilies, first go to admin -> forum -> Smileys and message icons -> Settings

Check "Enable customized smileys"

After this you have 2 choices. Either edit the current smiley set, or create a new one completely. I think it is always easier to just edit the default one, so go to
Admin -> forum -> Smileys and message icons -> Edit smileys and start tweaking to your hearts content.

You can delete old smileys, or replace them with new ones that you have uploaded in the smiley folder, or you can just add completely new smilieys to the set from
admin -> forum -> smileys and message icons -> Add smiley
