I am experimenting with blogging and forum software, and I decided to make a sandbox. So I installed WAMP on my Windows 7 64-bit computer, which puts a server on the machine. I was able to install WordPress by following some pretty detailed instructions.

I looked around for similar step-by-step instructions for SM on WAMP, but they don't seem to exist. Before I start, I need to know if it is necessary to CHMOD any files on my windoze machine. I realize that if I upload it to a server, I'll have to do that, but I'd like to get it tested out on my local machine first.

As far as I know, Windows doesn't use such permissions. Or else SMF will tell you when incorrect permissions are set.

Welcome to SMF Alan_the_Blogger

You shouldn't have to worry about that as long as you have write permission as The Burglar! stated.  I have several local installs but I used XAMMP and it was really easy to install SMF.  Just basically follow the installation guidelines that are linked in my signature.

Thanks to all for your help. I got slammed at work and have not had a chance to come back here and acknowledge the help. Please excuse the oversight of proper netiquette.

I'm going to try to do this in a few minutes.

Alan

We understand completely.  Be sure and let us know how it goes and once you have completed the installation, be sure and mark this topic solved. :)
