Hello, community -

we're installing SMF and new to the admin/server part of things. Can someone suggest a version that has the most compatibility with mods/themes and low security risk.

Sometimes the newest version is not always the best.

Thanks,

Did you just select the newest version or can you speak of compatibility issues with older mods not quite ready for 2.0.2

Big thanks

No, I will not offer free downloads to Premium DzinerStuido themes. Please stop asking.

any mod made for 2.0 RC3 or newer will work on 2.0.2 and most mod authors are developing for 2.0.

If you want to convert from another board try SMF 1.1.16 because it is the older system and the converters have been testet for years.

If you want to start something new try SMF 2.0.2, it is modern and stable.

I did just select the newest version, yes. If you are concerned about security, I'd still say 2.0.2 (or 1.1.16). If you are concerned about mods, then I guess it depends on the mods you want to use. My own site is still on 1.1.16 because of way too many customizations I've made. Likely won't ever go to 2.0.2 (or higher). :)
