I have went to chMod using my FileZilla making the folder 777, tried 775, 755, none of those worked.

Welcome to SMF, MarkHa10.

Have you entered all your settings on the Attachments Settings screen and set the Avatars to upload to the attachments directory?  By the way, which version of SMF are you using?

Yes, I've set, and reset each of my settings, and the 2.0.2 version of it.

When you CHMOD the attachments directory to 755 does it actually change or do you get an error of some sort? Are you changing the permissions on the folder with an FTP program?  Have you contacted your host about the inability to make the directory writeable?  Are you sure the path to your attachments directory is set correctly?

No errors, and I even do 'recurse to any files in the folder, which there is htaccess and index

Are you changing the permissions on the folder with an FTP program?
Yes FTP, FileZilla

Have you contacted your host about the inability to make the directory writeable?
I contacted here, they did what they could but havn't had a problem like this so I resorted to here.

Are you sure the path to your attachments directory is set correctly?
100% Sure.

Submit a support ticket to your host asking why you can't make the attachments directory writeable.

Most hosts block chmod requests from FTP clients such as FileZilla. Use the hosting control panel's file manager instead, to change permissions.

Also keep in mind that 777 is not writable on some hosts... your access will be blocked because it is "world writable" (i.e., a security risk).

I am getting this too, only on avatars.  If I attach an image to a post it works fine.  What is the difference between post attachments and avatars?  Aren't they stored in the same place?
