No permissions set for this user

Hi

I have SMF 2.0.2 and I have 4 members having a problem logging in. They have not been to the forum since its upgrade a few months back. 
The message they get when trying to log in is: No permissions set for this user.
Their temp files and cookies have been cleaned, 3 different types of browser used and different computers but with same result.
I have checked their permissions and they are the same as other members
Can anyone advise please.

Any error messages in the error logs ?

Nothing in logs at all Kermit, but I have found out something strange.

If the try to log in in the quick log in area at the top of the index page they get the message. If they log in on the normal box area they succeed in getting in the forum.
