SMF API 2, Can't login through SMF

When using the SMF API 2 to login a user through the forum when they login through the website, it does not work. Once the login completes and I navigate to the forum, I am not logged in through the forum. Any ideas? Please help.

Is the cookie being set?
Is it actually being set on path '/' ?
What does it contain?
