Default Membergroup

Is there any simple way to set a default Member group?
I have the site set up so you have a primary display group (No stars) then under that it shows your posting group which has the stars. Is there anyway to set a group on registration so the new registered member joins let's say for example the "Member" group upon registration.

I have looked at a few mods for this, but they all seem rather outdated.

There might be a mod for it, but otherwise no.

A user is always in two groups, their primary member group (which is 'regular members' by default) and their post count group.

Do you not want the post count group then? (If so, rename the bottom post count group to 'Members' and change the icon for it to be a single generic icon, so it's not a star...)

I do want the post group as I have them set as levels for the user, I removed the Regular Member group by mistake when I first started creating the site.

It isn't possible to remove that group, because it's not a real group.
