Hello,

I was wondering if an advanced warning system like the one vBulletin and MyBB uses is in development for SMF. Just asking, because it would be a little less (or a lot depending on the size of your board) to remember to let warning points expire after a certain time depending on the type of warning issued.

It's explained much better here: https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/user_infractions_intro/.

So are you guys working adding to the warning system?

Thanks!

We already have a warning system built into SMF2.0. You can enable or disable it in the Admin > Core Features.

Yeah, I have enabled it. I was just asking if adding more features to that system is in works. With vB and MyBB, the warning system allows you to give X number of points depending on the type of rule breach and allows you to set an automatic time length until the warnings expire. The expiration is also varied depending on the type of warning.

The warning can be set just as you are asking. They can expire based on the level of warning you give the user. There's a setting labeled:
Warning points to decrement from users every 24 hours

Doesn't that feature decrease all warnings? I'm not too sure I understand the SMF system all the well.

On vB, you can issue issue warnings for different rule breaks, and those warning points expire at different intervals depending on the type of breach. And the "points" can be increased or decreased separately.

And banning users is a little different. You can ban users and once the ban expires and they return, but the warning points haven't expired and they rack up more, then the user is banned for a longer period of time.

It's explained better than I've explained it in the link I posted. Adopting those features would be really beneficial in my opinion.

a bit excessive, IMO
Understandable. It definitely isn't needed everywhere, but it would be nice as a default. It can't hurt to be more customizable, I think.

Oh, just answer request: If this does happen, a good thing to add would be a cap on how many reports users can send in a certain time period.

And just so this is more clear, I'm requesting a warning system based on posts/threads and not users.
