How do you make post templates for SMF?

Kindred

1- wrong location...
2- wrong location...
3- wrong location...

4- clarify what you mean by "post templates"
in SMF, a template is a php file which is part of the theme.

Welcome to SMF, perhaps this is what you are looking for: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1279

Silver Hawkeye

By posting template, I mean the document that is attached. Just for SMF.

Kindred

you know, typing an explanation of more than a single line would be helpful....

your attached document makes no sense... what do you want to do with that jumbled mess of code and text?

It essentially makes posts look more fancy.

Kindred

and yet another single line, non-answer.

what, specifically are you trying to do? Please describe the actual thing and/or effect...not a jumble of code, not "it makes it look fancy"

You can edit display.template.php to display posts in any way you want...
You can use the custom form mod to predetermine the fields and display of a post (but not all posts)

Well I can provide you a screen shot perhaps or something of the fact the thing I want to achieve.  Post Templates on Proboards and Invision Free provide a background and icon to the posts making them look far less plain than they are normally.  They also allow lyrics and other stuff you couldn't add in a plain text post because of the nature of the plain text posts.

Kindred

see... was it that hard to explain in more detail?

What you are asking for can be done... but it would take a mod...

post.php, subs-post.php, and post.template.php to collect the information on what and how to display it, database columns to store that data and display.php and display.template.php to alter the display based on the settings chosen at post time.

What I am wandering though is if pro boards or other similar coding would work on an SMF forum or not.  I am not admin on the site I want to use the codes on to make my posts all fancy.

SMF contains limited features to make your own personal posts look all fancy -- it's the WYSIWYG editor, which allows you to change font sizes, colors, bold, italic, etc.

Lyrics are normally considered plain text, non?

But, if you are not an admin on the SMF board, you cannot add mods (as described above) to make peoples' posts look all fancy.

Obviously. ;)

Most people, now, don't see fancy posts as being "Cool". They just think "Dur... script-kiddie".

Silver Hawkeye,

SMF handles BBC tags just as any other forum...   so, try posting your mess of code in a regular post, if it's standard BBC, it will probably work.
The only tag I don't recognize is atrb
ah... and you can't use HTML, like "style"
ah2.... and smf, standard, uses color names, not hex codes.

You can increase font size, etc... but you don't use style tags... you use the appropriate individual BBC tag

Or in this case, "script-kitty".  :)  (you asked for it!!!)

@Silver Hawkeye If you like fancy post, go for it, who cares what others think anyway...

SMF does provide a wide range of BBC codes that lets you customize your responses as you wish, heres some info about BBC code on SMF:
