Ok so im doing a favor for an open source project, and since SF.net [nofollow] is discontinuing forums and such, im trying to move them over to a new site, however SF.NET [nofollow] uses phpbb, and im wondering if tthere is any way to transfer the postings over to smf in one fell swoop. im not sure if this is even possible as im sure the tables are different for the 2 different forums. but im thinking perhaps an archives system that would show all the old posts from phpbb? Oh and Obviously also since this is a fresh new forum, there are no users yet except mine and the project admin so when we try to migrate posts over is there a way we can make the original nick that posted it be displayed etc. even is that user doesnt exist, and independant of the actual user database?

Thanks in advance,

-JL Griffin

This isnt seeming to work, i think because the phpbb platform is from soruceforge so i do not have access to the actual files or database for it...

Any ideas how i can get around this?

Nevermind*** Im an idiot i just realized i can use the sf.net [nofollow] backup tool. Ill let you all know if it works.

Thanks,
JL

yes, the converter will erase the current SMF structure and import the phpBB structure (users, categories boards, topics and so on). the phpBB admins will have SMF admin privilegues and there's always the possibility to re-create that accounts later..
