when i upload package and then click install i see this error

(You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!)

i goto ftp change all to 777

same problem why ?

hcfwesker

do you have a folder labeled "temp" inside the Packages folder and is it set to 777 or 755?

LordTiggy

I am having the same problem as he has. New to SMF but not new to php ...

Temp folder is there chmoded to 777.

Everything seems to run fine and shows as installed but no actual file is added or altered.
Tried chmoding every file/dir to 777 still no luck.

Error log shows:

hxxp:www.myreef.be/index.php?action=admin;area=packages;sa=install2;package=ultimate_profile-0-9-1_20.zip;pid=0 [nonactive]
512: package_flush_cache(): some files are still not writable
File: /hsphere/local/home/rftools/myreef.be/Sources/Subs-Package.php
Line: 2534

If I can remember correctly site is running on linux server. Any ideas what I should do?

Check with your host, topic hijacker Lord Tiggy. ;)

Make sure you have full ownership of the files on your site (CHOWN) and ask them to disable "mod_security", too.

LordTiggy

I am sure they wont disable the mod_security.

All files have my username/group and are chmod as should.

Disbaling mod_security using the .htaccess makes the site unreachable :|

Any other option? :D

kat

Your group may not CHOWN the files.

You have to check that, with your host. You can't tell, just by using FTP, or the file manager, as far as I know.

alsaka

ftp and all fil 777 and same problem  :-\

MrPhil

777 is not always "writable". Many systems forbid access to a directory or file that is "world writable", for security reasons. Always start with 755. If you get the "unwritable" error, try 775. If still unwritable, only then go to 777.

emanuele

Sorry if this may sound harsh.
This is of course my personal opinion not to be intended as part of the SMF team

If this is your real answer feel free to pick another forum script and forgot SMF.
It wouldn't sound funny with smiley, it doesn't sound funny without.

Take a peek at what I'm doing! ;D

MrPhil > i try 755 not work same problem  :'(

MrPhil

Try 775 then. If that doesn't work, have you already tried 777?

i don't have this file name  :-\

So... create the directory (Not file), inside "Packages". :)

Which company is hosting your forum?

kat

Just checked the CHMOD settings, in FTP.

The permissions are right and they should be writeable.

So...

As I said, earlier...

QuoteMake sure you have full ownership of the files on your site (CHOWN) and ask them to disable "mod_security", too.

CHMOD is only good if you have full ownership. Only your host can set that.
