How can I Re; remove the reply topic

Chas Large

The mod http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=3004 will remove the Re: from  all replies when posted even though the word Re: is still present in the reply title before post is clicked, but it will not remove it from the board index, for that you need to install this mod:http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2172 too.

NOTES:
It does not work for all languages as not everyone uses Re:
The second mod may require you to use the emulation to RC5 to install it.
The second mod does not remove Re: from the list in the Info Centre.
My Modifications :)  My Forum

Please DO NOT PM me with support requests. Post the problem in the appropriate Support Board so everyone can benefit from the advice given.

weerforum

I've already done this but I still see Re

kat

Then you might want to post in that mod's support topic.

After all, that's why it exists. ;)

Be aware, though, that it only removes it on new posts, not existing ones.

Here's the link to the support topic for the second mod that Chas mentioned:

weerforum

Yes i know but i want it to remove in posts.
So there is nothing to ask  :(

kat

Maybe you'd get something if you use word censoring.

If you substitute "Re:" with a blank box, you might get lucky.

I just tried it on my forum and it works. :)

Kindred

you could always do a direct SQL replace using phpmyadmin

UPDATE `smf_messages` SET subject=Replace(subject, 'Re: ', '');

Kindred

did you do the SQL replace?

did it respond with
Successful ### rows updated
?

if not, then you didn't do it.

Yes that works fine but still Re:

Kindred

ok, your one line posts are starting to annoy me...

BE SPECIFIC, GIVE BLOODY DETAILS.
If you performed the SQL statement which I gave you, there will be no instance of "Re:" in any existing post.
If there is, then you didn't do it.

plain and simple. What I told you to do removes the text, directly in the database.

If you are trying to remove the "Re:' form appearing in FUTURE posts, then you need to install one of the mods that Chas linked you to...

I will ask somewhere else.

Kindred

lol... funny how you picked up on that, but missed the point of the rest of the message.

One liners are not any help.  Provide details so we can TRY to help you.

Where should i put that word  ?

Kindred

weer...   I don't have a problem with "bad" english...   I do have a problem with one line non-answers. :P

And thank you. Your new post shows the DETAILS that I asked about...

What I told you to do removes the text, directly in the database. (FOR EXISTING POSTS)

If you are trying to remove the "Re:" from appearing in FUTURE posts, then you need to install one of the mods that Chas linked you to... or edit post.template.php

Would you believe in the "Word censoring" section of Admin? (A bit radical, I know).

It's in, oddly enough, the "Posts and topics" section.

weerforum

I feel so stupid ...........
Briljant K@  :) ;) :D
So simple and working perfect.
Thnx peeps for the great help.

Sometimes, we all miss the obvious. Can't see the wood for the trees, kinda thing. ;)

Kindred

alternatively, to "fix" it globally
(remember, users can bypass the word censor)

Code (Themes/default/languages/index.english.php) Select

$txt['response_prefix'] = 'Re: ';

make it a blank string...

and then make the same changes for every index.LANGUAGE.php file...
