Add custom registration field value to MySQL Database

So I am doing a bit of touch ups for my forum running version SMF 2.0.2 and basically I have created a custom field during user registration. How do I add the value of this field to a MySQL database when a user successfully registers.

If possible I would like it to be an external MySQL database but if that isn't possible then the MySQL Database that my forum runs on would suffice.

how did you create this feild are you  using custom profile  feilds built in smf? if so you can show that custom feild on registration page
