Every topic is a new topic! (Even though I've read it)

Previous topic - Next topic

Heeey!

I seem to of ended up with bit of a problem where the "New Topic" notification just won't go away. It's just sat there screaming at my face. I moved a topic on a forum I'm currently working on with my partner, I move the stranded "Welcome To SMF" post to my outdated post board it's now saying there is a new topic in there all the time. I've clicked many times on the "Mark All Topics Read" button but it's still not moving. I had this problem on my old forum where everything I clicked on was then coming up as a new topic...

So I just wanted to know if any of you kind people could shed some light on this for me!

Thanks and have a nice day!

Just to confirm whether this is a problem with your browser, or the forum, can you check with another browser?

OK. You have what we in the trade call "Weirdness going on". ;)

Just a hunch, this...

Go to Admin>Server settings>Cookies and Sessions, will ya?

In there, change the name of the cookie. (You MIGHT get logged out and have to log back in).

Does that cure it?

Bots/spiders?

This is the thing that's making me scratch my head...

"I had this problem on my old forum where everything I clicked on was then coming up as a new topic..."

That makes me think it may be a "You" problem, rather than an "SMF" one. (I don't mean you personally. I mean Browser settings, that kinda thing)

Lemme have a think, on this one...

Okay, I'll let you think... I've tried everything I can with my browser... I'm using Google Chrome by the way...

But, it happens with other browsers, exactly the same, yeah?

Odd. Really odd.

Do you have cookies enabled in the browsers? Random guess.

Is the {prefix}log_mark_read table healthy?

  • When did this start happening?
  • What did you do to cause it to happen? Which mod was installed?
  • Can you list your mods?

It started happening when I moved an old post out of the way, this all started before I installed any mods so I don't think any mods...are doing this????
