Migrating from phpBB to SMF, some questions

Hi there,

As you may have read, I'm trying to move from phpBB to SMF, but there are some questions I have.

Both SMF 1.0.5 and 1.1 Beta 3 install without a hitch on my server, but which one should I use?
Which will have the easiest upgrade path?
I'd prefer going with the 1.1 install if possible.

If I want to use an other theme than the default, will mods still work? (I'm a phpBB veteran here and I'm used to stuff breaking when I make changes)
Should I install the theme first and then the mods?

Is it best to install the forums, make all the modifications and then use the migration script to move everything or should I move everything on a base install and then upgrade with mods/themes as desired?

Is there any other wisdom you'd like to impart on me?

It's up to you. 1.1 has more features (COPPA support, attachment thumbnails, ability to post calendar events without linking them to a topic, etc.), but there aren't as many mods or themes for it.

You will need to modify the other themes as well, but it shouldn't be too hard to do.

I'd recommend installing mods after you upgrade. It's your choice with themes since those don't actually modify anything.

I want to migrate from phpbb2 to smf 1.1 rc2 using phpbb2_to_smf.php but not works. Is possible to do this? How? thx!

If i'm not mistaken, transferring to 1.1 RC2 requires a different convert.php, as the one for the 1.0.x series tosses an error at the end.

The two files that metallica48423 attached will work - upload them to your SMF directory and run convert.php. See the Converters and Importers board for more info...
