I have to say that SMF is the best free forum ... why ?
1 - organized than others (i used to deal with phpbb3 befor and for me it's crap)
2 - best edit post wysiwyg (ever) sp after adding youtube mods
3- simple, elegant and tons of free themes

but,

to be the best of all u need more organized folders until designers who don't or know a little
about php, html, css, js and jquery can implement their imagination regarding coding,
even developers can enhance the code, simplicity in the hirarchical files will help a lot,
so we can organize folder for themes with a fixed file containing variables names controling colors,
padding etc (not the css coding) & file for the structure, not like index_template.php

any how i'll try later to put some ideas to discuss :)

The problem with 'simplifying the coding' which is really what you're asking about is that it will not only slow things down, it actually limits what designers can do with it.

Quoteso we can organize folder for themes with a fixed file containing variables names controling colors,
padding etc (not the css coding)

Except that is the place it is supposed to be. Putting it in the template is actually a really bad way to go.

well, i guss u misunderstood me,
The good system designer can put an efficient normalization for coding modules w/o sacrificing the performance and quality
even the good coder can put a good documentation details inside the module, and that is the first step for an easy maintaining,
- regarding developers -  but for some reasons in commercial semi open coding sources, programmers tend to complicate the sources
cause they know that any other coder can see the source explicited thru any browser

so my idea was simplicity without affecting the performance sp with processors speed available 5 years ago for interpreters,
no one put it in his head, it is not massive nuclear calculations my friend :)

regarding my idea about putting data files concerning design, i'll try to put an example later
thnx for ur concern

A common misconception often held by non programmers.

No argument. Some effort has been put into this in future versions.

Quotecause they know that any other coder can see the source explicited thru any browser

Um, no? If you view the source of this page, do you see raw PHP code? No, you don't. You see what the PHP code outputs.

Quoteso my idea was simplicity without affecting the performance sp with processors speed available 5 years ago for interpreters,

PHP has not vastly changed in 5 years in a way that would make this substantially worthwhile. In fact, using more 'modern' programming techniques would make SMF run slower than it currently does.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I have to agree with the organization and simplicity vs phpbb.

1- that comment has nothingt o do with the original post
2- "major interface mods" ? Really? Could you be any less specific?
