I believe it is something to do with the layout.

unoit do you have a forum with smf still?

I notice you have asked similar types of questions before yet none of the links in your posts have been smf forums.

unoit

Want to look like the one i posted.
I want the first page you goto to be just all new topics.

TheListener

The best way to do this is by using a portal mod IMO.

unoit

Yeah asked a while ago.
Yeah have a smf forum.
So using a portal would do it.
Now what portal and what setting??
I played around with my forum, using portmx, tried different stuff nothing really gets its like the one i posted.

unoit

Theres nothing on there at the moment.
This is a new forum im making.

ummm... unoit, you seem to be babbling.

1- when asking for help, you can not just point to a link and say "like that"
you must clearly and fully explain what "that" is and what you want to ACTAULLY do.

2- To get help with whatever portal mod you hqave chosen, please ask for help in the support topic for that specific mod.

3- viewforum.php is not part of SMF. SMF does not use that...    so, once again, you need to be more clear in your explanation. (and no...   you should not use directory index like that anyway). And no... SMF does not work that way...  there is no good way to do that and mo existing mod that I know of that will start your users off inside a board.
index.php loads boardindex.   index.php?board=### loads messageindex, but the landing page is the board index (the list of boards, not a list of messages)
With a portal, you have the option to add a landing page in front of the boardindex...  but that landing page is a built/defined page, not the messageindex.

As mentioned before, that's an abuse of the DirectoryIndex command. At best, it would apply only to someone entering your bare site without a URI given (just http://www.yourdomain.com/). If you want to send someone who came in on a bare site, to a specific URI, that can better be done with a URL rewrite in .htaccess (or the equivalent function on an IIS server).

As for your original request to have a site that looks "like that", I'm sure that with some combination of a portal and a theme you could get close to that page.

Ok guys ive just a started a new forum.
Now i want my forum to be a bit different to the norm. :o
i will only be having 1 forum so every new topic will be started in that 1 & only forum.
What i want to do is set up my site so when you veiw it you will only see all the topics, when you come to my site.
I believe i have to change some coding in
htaccess to achive this.
I know nothing about coding, so some simple answers would be good. :-[

thank you.

Ok how do i rewrite the htaccess?? :-X

What kind of URLs are coming in (what visitors type in, or other links), and what do they need to be mapped to? If you have an SEO mod installed (they don't do that much good), we can leave its revised links alone, although any changes need to be made ahead of the .htaccess code that's handling the SEO.

Something like: visitor types in http://www.mysite.com, and I want them to end up in http://www.mysite.com/forum/index.php?topic=1.0.

MrPhil

Please use standard SMF terminology. There is only one forum (the whole thing). It has one or more categories. Each category has one or more boards. Each board has one or more topics. What are you looking for?
