Is there any way to curtail, filter out, eliminate the number of attempted registrations by spammers/phishers on a forum that has been set up as a private forum?

We have a rule that any member that signs up must use their legal name so its an easy matter to just reject these attempts. So far we have just been rejecting them and now we have started blocking their ip's. We are getting 10 or more a day, at this rate it is starting to get time consuming policing these thieves.

Thank You for any comments,

Scott

You could try using the verifaction questions which are built into the 2.0 series plus have a look at the antispam mods on the mod site.

:)

admin aproval may be an idea too.

This has been discussed many many times. A quick search of the forum will reveal an enourmous amount of topics on the subject. Do a quick search and you'll find what you need.  ;)

It's your forum and your rules, but people do not like using their real name on forums. You're going lose a whole lot of potential members by enforcing that.
