I just admin created a member, and it said it sent an email for verification, but no email was received.

Is there anything i can change in the admin settings so the emails get sent out?

Are any emails being sent from the forum? (Such as PM notifications or board notifications)
What host are you using?

I can send PM's, but for some reason, registration emails, and password lockouts are not

Now now Captain, you know bumping within 24 hours is against the rules here.  Everyone is a volunteer trying to help in between their real life commitments.  And it's a Sunday.  I'm out of ideas, but if we're patient, somebody who can help will be along when they can  :)

Arantor

Sending PMs is not the same as PM notifications. You can send them all the time but it sounds like the notifications aren't being passed along same as the rest of the emails.

Now, if you're not having email errors in the error log, that would suggest you need to ask the host what the correct email settings should be for a PHP application to send emails.

Chalk: I am sorry!

What kind of errors should I look for?

Fsockopen()
is not showing up in the log, so i turned off email verification. Plus, i am connected to smf

Anything related to the word 'mail'.
All there is are users getting errors b/c their email address is not validated so they cannot log in, contacted host (000webhost) about what is the correct email setting

You're on a free host so there probably prohibiting the use phpmail or smtp

You get what you pay for. Seems like you're not the only one with this issue too.

Here are three things you should check:

1. Webmaster's Email Address (Configuration > Server settings > General). Make sure the email address is correct.

2. Method Of Registration (Members > Registration > Settings). Make sure Method of registration employed for new members is set to Email Activation

3. Also check the email address in your own administrator profile.

Capt. John

I emailed my freehost and got a response saying the email setting is correct.

Also, what is the best free host?

There isn't a 'best free host'. They're all pretty limited and you *will* outgrow them unless you plan on having a very empty forum.

So best is to buy one?

Forumotion is free, and requires no host, but it is severely limited

And it's severely limited BECAUSE it's free.

Yes, spending money on a host will almost certainly get you a better host than a free host (there are a few 'not so bad' free hosts that are better than 'really bad' paid hosts), but having a look through the paid hosting board here should give you an idea as to which companies are worth the money they're charging.

Currently, I am not aiming to pay. Is 000webhost the most "reliable" host or did I chose wrong?

Yes, it's one of the more reliable free hosts. That shows you how bad the field really is.

If you want to grow your site, you WILL need to pay, end of story.

So, this is still not working. Is there a certain setting I should set SMTF or should I use (PHP Default)?

Ask your host as to what they want the settings to be.

Not really because all you can just do is look at the shiny settings, not knowing what the correct ones should be... any guidance prior to knowing what they should be would be a waste of your time.
