edit: even after using it im still not entirely sure what teletype is

"TeleType" is of course a brand name of keyboard+printer used for remote access and distance transmission of text (tele=far + type). They were first used for news gathering operations, and in the 60s and 70s as remote computer terminals (dial up 134 baud with acoustic couplers). They had very slow fixed pitch printheads (IIRC, a cylindrical one that spun and bobbed up and down to put the right character in position to strike the ribbon). These days, it's usually taken to mean a fixed pitch font (often Courier, which was created for the IBM Selectric typewriter). Such a font is often used to set apart computer code from the rest of the text.

Ah, the memories that brings back!

*nods* That's usually what happens with the pretty colours >_<

Yup. In SMF terms it is used for code that is specifically inline with the rest of the text, as opposed to the code bbc for blocks of code.

BTW, if anyone does want them it's easy to rewrite glow and shadow so that they use modern CSS3. You can even use those bbc tags to assign a class, and then style that separately for each theme in the theme's CSS.

Pardon?

???

Ok, say you're insane and want your text to glow like a mandril's bottom. You'd scrap the existing glow code (I forget what it's based on, but it's something horrible) and just set a span with a class.

<span class="mandrils_backside">text n stuff goes here</span>

Then in your index.css you just call that class and set multiple text shadows in red, blue, purple, etc until you get the desired lurid effect. :)

Arantor

You'd have to rewrite the tag definition not to allow different colours though ;) Same with shadow, you'd have to rewrite it to cut the choice as to where the shadow can be.

Antechinus

Yup, sure, but that's not a big drama.
