Use Bad Behaviour, Misc Anti Spam and add a couple of anti-spam questions in the admin panel.

SMF does not have features which require third party configurations...   So, there is none "from SMF"


personally, I use
Questions (default SMF feature)
bad behavior+httpBL (registered to project honeypot)
stop spammer (which also draws from the SFS database and does not seem to have this problem)

Arantor has also just released a mod which will probably be very useful.
