Error on Forum header

Please I am having a certain Error on my Forum header. I want to remove "News" from showing just below the header and also any news that appears on front page shows below the header too as shown in the image below.please how do i remove these?

To remove the actual news item, just go to Admin>News and newsletters and change the... er... news.

If you want to get rid of the word "News", too, you'll need to edit index.english.php, in the default theme's "languages" directory.

Find this:

$txt['news'] = 'News';

and change it to this:

$txt['news'] = ''; (the bit in red is two apostrophes, not a speech mark)

ok boss..i have been able to remove the word news but that news showing under the header is an error of some sort. i don't know maybe if i extend banner size it would be hidden? i do not want to remove the news on top page just tht i don't want it appearing in that spot

That's something you'll have to ask the person who made the custom theme you're on olilibob.

Ah, right. That's what puzzled me, coz if he's removing the news, anyway, that won't show.
