Select location on registration

Hi,

I have setup an SMF 1.x board which will be used as a community forum for the village i live in.

I have installed a mod to show the users location under their name. The idea I have is to force users to select their street name from a drop down box on registration, which would be set as their location..

The location field in their cp would need to be a drop down box as well.

I found this mod (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1651) but it is a bit outdated and it uses a text box, maybe some one could adapt this to a drop down box for me and advise how to do the same for the location field in the user cp area?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any particular reason you choose SMF1 over 2? In SMF2 all you want is build in and easy to achieve.

even if the op was using 2.0 it would not have a drop down to select from, but they could create one using the advanced profile fields.

I chose v1 as I found more mods that will be useful for us.

There is a very big chance that many of these mods are build in in SMF2 and that is why you do not find such mods for 2.

How would I do this in v1?

Conversely, what would the steps be to do this in v2?

In 2.0.* you have to follow this:

As additional option (if you want) you can add these field(s) as columns on the memberlist with this mod:

BTW maybe we can give you some ideas how you can achieve something in 2.0, that you think is possible only in 1.*. Tell us some of the mods you can't find for 2.0.*

do you have a list of all possible locations that your users may want to select? if not then i really dont suggest you go this way, and let your users use the default location field.
