2.0.2 - 2.0.4

Currently using 2.0.2 with a portal installed.  Will I hurt the portal by upgrading to 2.0.4?  Also, I and my members are unable to upload pictures, will the upgrade solve that problem?

if you upgrade by using the PATCH files, then no- your portal will not be affected.
As for your upload problem...  since nothing was modified in that area, it is unlikely that upgrading would fix that problem.

You will need to be mucg more clear and detailed with regards with your problem.
"unable to upload pictures" is not actually very helpful...
How are you trying to upload pictures? as attachments to a post?
What error do you get when you attempt to upload?
what format are the (failed) pictures?

When I try to upgrade, I get this:  "You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!"  Last time I upgraded, I didn't have this problem.

well, it would appear that something has changed on your server....   either permissions, ownership or configuration...

make sure that Packages and Packages/temp exist and are both at least 755 chmod

Obviously.

Do yourself a favour. Go to Admin>Packages>File permissions and set that to the "Standard" profile.

Then, try creating the "temp" directory.

Then, try to do the upgrade.

If it squawks, again, ask your host to give you full CHOWN ownership of the files on your site.

The host created Packages/temp. I chmodded temp to 755, same result when using package mgr:  "You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!"

both the packages directory and the packages/temp directory should be 755 (maybe 775, possibly 777, depending on the ownership and your host's configuration)
the files in the directory should be 644, maybe 664, possibly 666

Maybe I'm trying the wrong way, as I thought I was uploading 2.0.4.  I must download this first?  As I said, it's been a while.

I am not sure what you are trying... but 2.0.2 needs a patch to 2.0.3 and then patch to 2.0.4
