Quoteif the file is showing a size of 0 that is only possible if you are out of space.

Hmmm.... not entirely limited to just that, could be due to a file transfer limit, a quota set, a max files open limit, or some other security aspect such file ownership/permissions.

This whole issue sounds like the Apache as "nobody" is owning the files. Consequently, I would check with your host and clarify that aspect. I can't believe your host changed that as you never had the problem in the past, but unfortuantely some hosts have a habit of changing things without consulting their clients.

Often, I believe that something like a server upgrade can leave this sort of poo lying around.

Mark_Breznay

Upgrades were successful and here is what the host, (who did the 2.0.3 upgrade) said:  "Hello Mark,

There was a file named "temp" inside the Packages folder and it was not allowing the temp folder creation. I've removed the file and successfully installed SMF 2.0.3 update. Please check it now and update to SMF 2.0.4 if required."

Someone in this thread advised me to create that temp file, which was causing the problem.  So, someone had incorrect info. However, everything seems to be working fine now and with additional disc space, solved the attachment problem in my original post.  Just one question:  Do I need to enable the quick reply box?

Thanks for everyone's help,
Mark

I think you need to read closer.
Everyone ho mentioned temp referenced creating or looking for the TEMP DIRECTORY (aka folder) no one ever mentioned a temp file....

well, it would appear that something has changed on your server....   either permissions, ownership or configuration...

make sure that Packages and Packages/temp exist and are both at least 755 chmod

That's a directory path. (That might not've been clear to a nooB, though)

did you create the temp and backup folders as requested earlier? in the packages folder

Kinda confirmed it, though.

Illori

well the op had an error that said the package manager could not write to a folder... usually that means the temp or backup folder cant be made or written to. so creating them usually solves the problem.

Kindred

as did my very next post after he said that the directory did not exist... :P

then please create that directory...

and every post after that, we referred to it a a directory, a folder and a sub directory...

well that is up to you...

I do recommend that you read through the wiki/manual (link above, to the right) since I suspect that the majority of your questions are likely to be answered there

Since I can't seem to find any info on the quick reply block, am I safe in assuming it is a MOD?

no. quick reply is a standard feature.

as I said, read through the manual/wiki.

there is a personal setting for it, in your profile
there is a global setting for it in theme settings, member options.
