Hello,

I have been trying to find a mod that makes peoples usernames show up in the membergroup colour on the "Latest Thread" column of the index of the forum.

I foudn a few although they do not match my version of SMF (2.0.4)..

I was wondering how I would go about updating a modification package or even making my own? I have confident with PHP and other web languages

Welcome to SMF

Update

you can try Mod emulating ..............

what version of your SMF?

How to Emulate

Go into the package manager and click "Advanced".

Type the version to emulate, beginning with SMF, like "SMF 2.0 RC3" (depending your SMF Version)

:)

I did try to emulate an older version, although it made some of my other mods not work properly.

It shouldn't affect any of your existing mods, you're only emulating the package manager.  In the advanced link at the bottom of the Browse Packages page, type the latest version of SMF that the mod says it is compatible with (should be at least SMF 2.0 RC5 or the chances of it installing are greatly reduced, don't even try to install 1.1.x mods on a 2.x forum) and apply.  Install the mod.  Go back to Advanced and select "Revert".  That's all there is to it  :)

Don't forget to back up your forum before installing mods, especially fiddly ones - one day you will break your forum and need to restore it  ;)

I tried this and it didn't install properly...

Really, Id like to make my own mod frmo scratch and do it but not sure how.

If you already know how to code then you can learn how existing mods work and how they modify SMF.

Note that "it didn't install properly..." is not a very helpful description of a problem  ;)
