I did a search and couldn't find one, I'll like to be able to click a button in the admin and have it back up the SMF database.

There is a backup function built into SMF.

For large forums I suggest doing a dump with phpmyadmin or another db exporting tools

Admin > maintenance > forum maintenance > database > back up database

but that backup is known to not be complete depending on host configuration and size of the database.

Just use MySQL Dumper, if your server has Perl, you can configure a simple cronjob to automatically create backups and having them mail to you every X days and forget a bout having to back up manually.
Oh, wouldn't it be great if I *was* crazy? ...then the world would be okay

You should really upgrade, the version you are running is terribly outdated and full of critical security issues...

Take a peek at what I'm doing! ;D

Yeah, 2.0 RC3 is a bit outdated and insecure these days (and I didn't even find that from the footer ;D)

phpmyadmin dumps do not work on some hosts due to timeouts.  Any method you use, do several backups, and see if the file sizes are the same.  A bad backup often does not generate errors, so you'll believe you have a good one when you don't.

And don't use the SMF admin backup.

When in Emor, do as the Snamors.

I just took it over and I agree I need to upgrade.  I'm just dreading putting back in all the customization.

I am using MySqlDump on a schedule Job now and I'm dumping it to my skydrive sync folder, so the storage is off site.  (Which is pretty cool)

I like to use beyond compare to merge changes back and forth if you did custom work to the forum.
