That's the message index, not the board index.

If you've modified the file and it's still there, either you're editing the wrong file or it hasn't saved for some reason. I really can't make it any more plain than that.

Burke ♞ Knight

Board Index only shows Posts & Topics.
Message Index shows Views & Replies.

Have to actually be in a board to see the change.

wynnyelle

Right. the message index, I'm sorry, that's what I mean.

If this is the wrong file, what is the right file? I'm lost now.

Arantor

Look, I really don't know what you've done to make it not work. MessageIndex.template.php in your theme - or failing that the default theme's - is the right file. I can only conclude you're still looking at the wrong file, maybe you've pulled it from the wrong theme, or you've taken the live site's file instead of the dev site - these things happen.

All I know is there is no way you have uploaded the file you think you have to the place you think you have because if you had it would work.

wynnyelle

I double and triple+ checked. I have done none of these things.

Thank you anyway, though, you did your best.

Can anyone else possibly help me with this? It is just removing one word.

Burke ♞ Knight

Trouble is, the only way, is the way we said.
If it is not working, then there is something wrong with the file, or there may be another edit that needs to be done, due to the theme.

What theme are you using?

wynnyelle

On the development site, I'm using the theme Xanje, a custom-made theme that isn't finished yet.

Burke ♞ Knight

Re-Post the Message.template.php from that theme, please.
Make it fresh from download from the server, and I'll look it over.

Looks good, but try something for me.
Using FTP, upload the copy I've attached.
When save it from here, save to new EMPTY folder on drive, make sure it does not add anything to the name.
Then upload it.

done exactly as you asked. The word "Replies" is still displaying; what now?

I really need some guidance here :( I'm sorry.

Burke ♞ Knight

There is nothing more we can do.
What we did works everywhere else, and should have worked on yours.
That is the one and only edit for that.

Have you tried like I suggested before, checking with another browser?

wynnyelle

Yes, I did! I tried everything. I need help :(

I juts want to remove this ONE word! That is all!

I tried to take it out of the language file but it took it out of everywhere then.

Burke ♞ Knight

That's the problem.
The edit is right. It should NOT still be showing.
Switch to default theme and see if it still shows.

wynnyelle

I tried to and the site isn't loading. I can't get anything to work. What now?

Burke ♞ Knight

If dite is not loading with the default theme, then you have more serious issues than this text issue.
You may have some corrupt file that is causing the site loading and maybe even this text issue.

You say this is a dev site?

Have you tried this fix on another site yet?

wynnyelle

No, I do not want to. But my real site isn't loading now either.

Burke ♞ Knight

Okay, then that sounds like a server issue, not the site itself.
May have to wait a bit. Might be having maintenance being done, or something.

wynnyelle

#58

I don't know what to do.

Burke ♞ Knight

Nothing you can do, but wait for it to come back online.

Hosts do have a habit of having issues when you are working on things, it seems...LOL

Get a good night's sleep, then try like I said in morning.
Switch to default, and see if it works right there.
