New message icon png to gif

How to set the icon new message at the forum, read as gif image? Originally read as png, and I would like to gif animations.

I believe that would be changed in the BoardIndex.template.php file for your theme.
If your theme does not have one, can copy the one from the default theme, so can edit that and leave the default one unchanged.

Always be sure to back up any files before you edit them.

do consider that the new.gif is used in many other locations, so if you delete the old image and do not fix the other locations you will have issues.
