I need this feature on my smf forum

I have a simple machine forum, version 2.0.5 and I want to be able to be moving some vital threads to the front page of my forum just as it is done on this forum: hxxp:nairaland.com [nonactive].

Secondly, I want a script or mod I can install on my SMF 2.0.5 version to enable members and guests viewing any thread to show as soon as one opens that thread.

Hi and welcome to SMF 

1. Try a portal mod - it won't look quite like Nairaland but in my opinion it will look much better, and Nairaland isn't using SMF anyway    With a portal you could have a block to display x number of recent topics and most will allow you to promote posts directly to the front page (sometimes called articles).  There are many other things you can do with a portal mod too, to customise your front page.

2.  Go to Admin > Configuration > Current Theme > Theme Settings and change the setting Show who is viewing the board index and posts

Or...a change to the theme, "reducing the impact" of the boards and increasing the number of recent posts?

Thanks very much. But pls which portal mod will be able to do something very close or better than that of nairaland front page feature? I am not too good with html and web skills, pls if u can help me with how to get the portal mod and how to install it. Thanks so much. Lastly, I also need a mod to help me display current time and date on the top page of my forum.

And which forum software is nairaland using? I though its SMF?

There are several portal mods available on the mod site (top right of this page, customize, modifications).  Probably the easiest to get the hang of is Simple Portal.  Back up your forum first, as you should before you install any mod, then install the portal and have a play with it.  You should find fairly easily within the portal configuration menu how to create a recent topics block, and a new button will appear next to posts saying "Add as Article" which will promote that post to the front page.

The best thing really is to have a play and if you get stuck, ask for help on the portal's dedicated support thread 

And I think Nairaland made the site themselves.....
