Removing Registered Links and SimplePortal Mod won't work

I installed the Registered Links mod, however, I don't think its what I need. When I tried uninstalling I got this message

The same thing that holds true for installation, holds true for uninstallation

basically, you are going to have to manually edit those files in those sections to find and remove (or change back) the corretc code (which was apparently edited by some other mod after you installed the first mod)

I have used this Registered Link Module successfully with Simple Portal several times although currently have it uninstalled, I keep it around just in case I ever want to turn that back on, which I am considering... you will need to make edits to the indicated source files that have errors manually with an editor...

You introduced an error in your edit somewhere, you'll need to check you SMF error log and see if it gives you any information about the file in question, or you can attach the file in question here and see if someone may be able to point out or correct the problem...

Have you looked through every message in your SMF Error log to see if anything shows something that could be the file in question? ... its most likely a syntax error, you were most likely editing the wrong file to begin with...

Should i just get the index.template file from a fresh copy of SMF or will that break the forum more?

Ok, so did you go ahead and execute the uninstall even though it indicates errors? you should be fine to proceed if the only error is in the language file, which you already took care of, yes?

I saw the error codes in the modification language files. It said to remove the section on registered links and replace with ?> when I did my forum started the template parsing error. So No I didnt fix the problem. My forum is broken. If someone could tell me where in the database the posts are kept, I will just download the database and start over again but I do not want to lose the topics I started so if someone an tell me where the topics are saved in the database I will just restart.

you put the ?> somewhere in the MIDDLE of the file, didn't you?

The uninstall says that, because it "assumes" that the mod you are uninstalling was the last mod that you installed....   which is why it used that ?> comment.  you need to have only ONE ?>  int he file - and that should be at the very end (not even a blank line after it)

You also need to finish with the rest of the uninstall using the automatic uninstall

There is no need to start over, looks to me like all you need to do is go back into the language file that you edited and make sure that the ?> you have in there is the VERY LAST line of the file and that is the ONLY one present...

Besides, if you start over you would have to reinstall ALL your mods over again, save yourself some headaches and time...

Before I editted the file, I saved the original. As soon as I saw that error message, I placed the original file back. It is as it was before I editted it, so something else must be wrong. Since I am not familiar with this system, trying to figure out what's wrong is impossible for me. So restarting is my only option. Thank you very much for you help, but as you can see, I have no idea what I am doing, sad but true.
