Hi All,

After some script kiddies exploited horde webmail system and the rest of the webserver I lost my previous community forum.
I decided to move to a new host and setup a fresh install of smf.

All goes well except for one bug I havent been able to find a solution for:

- When clicking the [install mod] or
button in package manager (they download and delete fine) the package manager takes me to a strange login screen. Not the admin pass verification one, but the normal login screen, tried all possible cookie settings without result.
- I am installing on a subdomain and have played with cookie settings, chmod, all configs work but no solution to my problem.

No errors in log, just the damn login screen when clicking install mod or list files on any paclage, it doesnt even really log me out, the browser back button gets me back in without login.

Frankly I just dont know where to look, any help appreciated.

- safe mode off
- chmodded files correctly
- no white screen
- no errors
.... just that damn login screen taking me to the homepage and the story starts all over again.

Kind regards,
TMAS
This "Strange login screen"... It's not the screen asking for your FTP login details, is it?

Can you post a screenshot, please? ;)

Hmm... Now, why's it sending you there? If you log in, again, using that, does it continue? Or, do you get sent back the the index page?

You can put your site URL. Just use the word "dot", where the dots are. (It's a pretty furtile spam prevention thing. Once you've posted it, I'll edit it, so that it's correct).

http://test.burobrom.nl/info.php  ;D

after filling in that login screen it takes me back to index indeed... every time
tried all cookie combinations, from the default, to subdomain independant only and removing cookie

OK. I edited your post. So, the URL is showing, correctly. :)

Just thinking out-loud, here... I could be WAAAAY off-beam, here. But, is your site using www. or not? Is it possible that you have a setting, somewhere, that's not using the www when it should, or is, when it shouldn't be? (If that makes sense?).

TMAS

hmmm you think it has to do www?

This is just a test setup on a subdomain to test the new host, the final forum will be on a www. site.
The subdomain is autocreated by creating a folder nexto the www in htdocs. Could this be the prob?

I'm not sure, to be honest. It just kinda leapt into my head, for whatever reason. :)

If, say, there's a parent site on http://www.yoursite.com and the forum's at http://yoursite.com it's gonna cause weirdies.

TMAS

local path: /home/vhosting/d/vhost0046253/domains/burobrom.nl/htdocs/test
ftp root starts at: /domains/

so the main www site is in a folder in htdocs/www
when creating a subdomain all I need to do is createa folder named ex:"test" inside the htdocs.

... this could be the problem here, just cant fit the puzzle ...

If you think this is the prob, I could go ahead and transfer the main domain and hope it works from there...

thx for helping out K!

For now there is a totally different site on the ww, just plain html thingamjiggy has nothing to do with forum...
Then in /htdocs/test I put the test forum

As I mentioned before the end forum will be on http://www.mysite.com just want to make sure this host will work before I transfer domain.

Ah. If you transferred the files, it might be looking at files on the old domain.

When you've transferred all the files and the database, you need to run this, to put all the paths right.

It was an "AH! I got the wrong end of the stick". :P

I wonder... Can you ask your host a couple of things?

1-Is "mod_security" enabled? If it is, get them to disable it. It's crapTM.

2-Do you have full CHOWN ownership of the files on your site?

TMAS

they told me I have full ownership of the files and mod_security is disabled...
