I removed all ads because they were misbehaving - but there is one ad I can't remove through the admin panel. It is on the stats page.
http://www.studentforums.biz/index.php?action=stats
I have look through all the likely files where the code migh be and can't find it.

Shambles

No ad shows up for me, on that page.

Stanyy

I see an 'Advertise With Us' banner at the top.

Shambles

^-- I don't.

But there is a lot of jellyware before the page header:

<center>
<script type="text/javascript">
clicksor_mobile_redirect = false;
//default banner house ad url
clicksor_default_url = '';
clicksor_banner_border = '#A0D000'; clicksor_banner_ad_bg = '#FFFFFF';
clicksor_banner_link_color = '#000000'; clicksor_banner_text_color = '#666666';
clicksor_banner_image_banner = true; clicksor_banner_text_banner = true;
clicksor_layer_border_color = '#A0D000';
clicksor_layer_ad_bg = '#FFFFFF'; clicksor_layer_ad_link_color = '#000000';
clicksor_layer_ad_text_color = '#666666'; clicksor_text_link_bg = '';
clicksor_text_link_color = ''; clicksor_enable_text_link = false;
clicksor_layer_banner = false;

It changes. I'm viewing with opera mini.

studentforums

There is an leaderboad banner ad right at the top of the page - the jellyware mentioned.

I just thought... I have Ghostery and an ad-blocker installed. That's why I don't see it.

I just disabled those and saw something that wants to take me to http://ads.clicksor.com/newServing/yesupSearch/image.php?q=online+advertising

If you're using a free host, it could be something that they put there.

Looking at the code, it seems you have a mod from smfads.com It's likely to be one of these:

SMF Gallery Pro
SMF Classifieds
SMF Store
Download System
Newsletter Pro

It'll most likely be one of those mods that's added that ad.

Illori

or maybe "SMFAds for Free Forums" as it says at the bottom of the forum [in the copyright]

kat

Indeed. That's why I said:

Quote from: K@ on December 04, 2013, 01:38:06 PMIf you're using a free host, it could be something that they put there.

He replied that he rents a server, though. If he rents it from smfads, that might explain it... Odd that the ad only seems to appear on the stats page, innit?

Illori

that is the copyright statement for the ad management mod, it has nothing to do with createaforum etc.

but i believe that the ad management mod does not have a spot on the stats page but has been a while since i looked at it.

kat

Yeah. We'll have to wait and see what he says about the mods that he has. 'course, if the ad's part of the ToS, for one of those mods, he's kinda stuck with it.

Illori

yea he is stuck with the copyright, but the ads are up to him where they are placed and what shows.

kat

Yep. I'm sure we can get rid of that, easily enough. :)

studentforums

I am sure it is not due to any mod. The ads is clicksor code - we used to have clicksor ads. I am sure the code is in some file but I can't find it.

you should not have any code before the opening html tag, which you do. so you have code in some file in the wrong place.

i would suggest you start off checking if the ad appears on the curve theme if so then start checking out your source files for the issue.

Please remove any mods form the list that you give us, if they are not actually installed on your site?

I would think that's not actually a good idea.  If the users problem is caused by a MOD previously installed, (But NOT uninstalled properly), then a full list of MODS, (installed or not), would surely give a better picture of whats going on?

Just my 2 bits.

Drunken Clam... not really no...   because we have no idea if those mods listed were even ever installed in the first place.... (for example, I have 4 mods currently in my list that I have thought about installing, but never clicked to complete)

To make things more complicated, I avoided the website for a year becuase the thought of upgrading it with so many incompatible mods I thought I couldn't live without gave me nightmares. As it turned out, upgrading took me a morning. That ad could have been dispplaying for 2 years without my noticing.

Kindred, no offence meant, but MORE information is surely better than PARTIAL information?

And what about ones that you have installed, and then uninstalled? You of course, being knowledgeable of SMF, would know if they have uninstalled properly...... new users would not, so, if it says it's NOT installed, by your previous, they would not list it!

Maybe it's a logic fail on my part, if so apologies. :-)

Arantor

QuoteKindred, no offence meant, but MORE information is surely better than PARTIAL information?

More is not necessarily better. The ambiguity involved - since we don't know about never-installed vs maybe-not-uninstalled-properly - does make it harder to diagnose what's going on.

Kindred

actually, again... no.

in most cases, "more" information means extraneous information which will just confuse the matter.
We look at the installed mods...   if it appears to not be an issue with a mod on that list, then we can (and will) ask if possibly, there was a recently uninstalled mod...
(besides, it actually serves to confuse the issues further because many times the users have deleted mods fomr thta list (some installed some uninstalled, some never installed)

So - focusing on one aspect at a time is actually the best way to address checking for the vector.

In one of your files, you have this:

<div id="tip">
<div id="ad_block">
<ul>
<li>
<ol>
<li class="text" style="width: 716px; height: 78px; border-top-width: 1px; border-right-width: 1px; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-width: 1px; background-color: rgb(236, 248, 255);" id="ad0" onmouseover="showstatus(0);" onmouseout="hidestatus(0);" onclick="return doClick(0)">ev
</ol>
</li>
</ul>
</div>

I can't think which file it would be in, at the moment (Brain fuzz). If you do a file/text search, you can find that and remove it.
