Getting my websites login to login to the SMF at same time

So I am trying to intergrate my website with the SMF forum I have installed. Basicly I have my user system which concludes of username, md5 password, email and some other details.
I have set it up so when a user registers it registers on the forum also so there should be the user on both systems.

I just want to know if there is an easy way to use my login script to log in my website and my forum. Unfortunately the ssi_login will no help me here.

It would be possible but I'd hate to weaken SMF's security in the process.

Even if the system is using a salted md5 (and I suspect it isn't), it's still an order of magnitude easier to break into than SMF's all other things being equal. (And SMF's is hardened against things like session fixation)

I don't know why you need to duplicate stuff; the forum handles all that stuff anyway, and it's infinitely easier to use SMF's permissions system outside SMF than it is to bridge to something else (especially something demonstrably easier to break)

The issue I have is that I use these log ins for users to log in with games for authentication and which I dont know is possible with that smf use info.

And can't your website use SMF's authentication instead?

I would still have the issue of my games needing php scripts to log in so I would still have to code them. Since everything works outside of SMF already I was hoping doing it this way would of been the simpler route.

Kindred

why don't you pass the information BACK to your script(s) from inside SMF when the user logs in - instead or reducing the security and trying to REPLACE the SMF login?
