Try using the actual server address for $db_server.  IIRC, 'localhost' does not work on GoDaddy because their db storage is elsewhere.

I'm not on GoDaddy, GoDaddy were the registrars for the .info domain which has just expired. The nameservers for the .info domain name were Hostroutes not GoDaddy's.

My hosting is on Hostroute UK. So both the .info & .co.uk domains are on my hostroute multi site hosting package. And the registrars for the .co.uk domain are Nameroute

There's nothing wrong with the domain.  I linked to your forum url and get the SMF database connection error, so the address is valid and the forum is there.  Try replacing 'localhost' with the actual server address.

erm whats the actual server address and where wud I find it?

Sir Osis of Liver

You may be able to find it in the MySQL Database section of your host control panel, else you can ask host support.

Was where you said and the server address is given as Localhost via UNIX socket

I guess no-one knows why it won't work.

I'll have to install another smf and start a brand new forum. Shame because there's 5yrs of information on the old one, and lots of reference information. I'll probably lose all my members too, because it'll take a good year to put all that information back onto the forum. And a lot of it will be lost too.

Gutted!  :'(

margarett

Don't do that.

Please PM me your host control panel details. I'll have a look.

I've just done it.

Deleted the new database and made new one.

Deleted all database users and made new ones

Deleted the site from domain2.co.uk and then downloaded again from domain1.info

Uploaded site to domain2.co.uk

Exported database from domain1.info

Imported to database on domain2.co.uk

Uploaded repair_settings file

Ran repair_settings file

Went to url of forum, it's all there.

Deleted repair_settings file.

Thank God for that

Thanks for your help Krash and Margarett I do appreciate it.

I still don't know why it wouldn't work before, but started again from scratch and it's working fine and no information lost.

margarett

"Start from scratch" and "no information lost" in the same sentence doesn't really combine :P

Glad you sorted it out (even if it wasn't as easy as I originally said :P )

Marked as solved for you. Feel free to have it unsolved if you need further help.
