I have recently switched to a windows server due to application needs and am for the most part using SMF just fine on the windows server, but it seems that SMF isn't sending mails (activation, notification, user profile generated, none).

I have tried the test mail script that is given here: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Why_are_members_not_getting_emails_sent_from_the_forum

On my test, it shows a result of mail sent

When I try to get SMF to send a mail, it acts like it is working fine, but does nothing.

my PHP info:  http://www.dworebirth.com/phpinfo.php [nofollow]

When I contacted my host, they said to check the code and what not or possibly rebuild from some examples they gave :L

Thanks for any advice or help you guys can give.  Let me know if theres anything else you need from me.

EDIT:  I have no error messages associated with this being generated.

If you have the Mail queue enabled then you should see a backlog of messages building up. If it's empty them mail is leaving SMF and going somewhere.

SMF supports SMTP for mail as it safer than sendmail, most hosts prefer you to use it anyway.

The webmaster address in the main server settings > general for SMF needs to be the same as the sending e-mail for your mail account, otherwise it could be seen as a spoof routing mail and be blocked.

If you use SMTP, prefix your mail servers name with "ssl://" like ssl://mydomain.mail.whatever

Ok, i tried enabeling the mail queue, made an e-mail, told it to send all mails in queue....then queue is empty....so i guess something happened (still no mail received).

I don't have an ssl certificate, would that make a difference on the SMTP server if i go that route?

Got ahold of my host again and told them that it was their end (explained that this was a well developed package and it works).

Turned out it was a DNS misconfiguration.

Excellent result. Well done for persistence. ;D

As for the SSL certificate, no you don't need one for SMTP. SSL is if you're hosting a security based site with an HTTPS prefix.
