Send reset password email to all users...

I found this post in forum - but no resolution:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=473431.0

I am migrating to SMF - and bringing the current user community (200-300)...
Obviously the password field won't come across - so my thought was to have everyone reset their passwords...

While I can obviously send them an email asking them to go to 'Login' and click 'forgot password' and enter their username or email... I thought it would be much friendlier (and be better received with higher likelihood people would come to the site...) if they each got an email with the password reset link ready to go...

The 'forgot password' form drives link: hxxp:mydomain.com/index.php?action=reminder;sa=picktype [nonactive]
passing the user and a hidden field.
I've tried directly accessing the url with no success ('Your session timed out while posting. Please go back and try again.')

Is there a way to drive this programmatically (from php? perhaps with cURL?) that someone has already figured out?
Entering 200-300 id's manually isn't my idea of fun... :)

Thanks!
Greg

no... there is no way to do this in SMF by default...
you would have to either find or write a script to do it.

cant you email them the link yourforumurl/index.php?action=reminder ? which will prompt them to start the password reset/forget procedure?

Kindred

not sure... but I don't think that will work

why not? that leads you to the form to insert your username or email address and go from there. it is the main way smf redirects users into the process.

index.php?action=reminder does drive the page...
I was trying to make it simpler by having the reset email already sent - since I am trying to get a large number of people to do it.

I have no issue writing a script - its just figuring out what it needs to do... :)

if you want to write a script you may be best posting in the coding discussion board and see how far you get there.
