This morning, I woke up to find a white page where my forum is supposed to be. The forum worked fined last night.

After several hours online with the web hosting company, we are still showing only a white page.

however, if I go to my admin login page, it works until I put my password in, then the page turns into a blank white page once again. I go back, the admin login page is there, but anywhere I navigate from there, the page goes white again.

Anyone have an idea what could be wrong? I've had the site since 2005, but this is a first for me.

Apparently anything with php is totally not working. I can go to pics, etc, and everything works normally....except the forum.

You need to check your PHP error log. It should let us know what's wrong ;)

Which SMF version are you running?

Hmmm... Good host, then...?

Have a look at the files, using FTP. The files are there?

If so, I suspect your host's done something, like upgrading a server, or something. Maybe they've not given you full file ownership and/or enabled the crap that is mod_security.

Yes, the files are all there when I ftp the server. The host has worked on it all morning, and they have been awesome since 2003 with me. I had other problems with other hosts, but this host is ace-host.net, where I moved the site in 2011 or 2012.

Yes, it is www.inthesulky.com  That 403 is one I made. Let me go turn off the .htaccess and see if that helps.

if you type in www.inthesulky.com/admin or www.inthesulky.com/pics you will get to the forum.

Where would I go to look at the php errors? I have a traumatic brain injury and am very forgetful, so if I knew this at one time, I forgot it. LOL

Your host can give it to you in a split second ;)

Or, check for a "error_log" file in your forum folder (this is usual in shared hosts)

Out of curiosity, Have you got a recent backup you could restore?

They backed it up to Saturday, but still nothing.

This is strange, though:

Ok, I have an idea. The host put in an old backup. I am going to attempt to put it back to today's configuration to see if that helps.

Those "client denied by server configuration: " messages are symptomatic of DENY IP entries in the root's .htaccess file

i recently had a similar issue when my host had some issues, when I looked I saw my settings.php was empty and I mean fully empty, so can I maybe suggest you look at this file to see if it has data in it.

I turned off the .htaccess files to test that theory. Still the same results.

Checked it. It is not empty.

One thing I think I may have discovered though is that the index.php file shows 2.07, but I think the server upgraded to 2.08 before I could upgrade the forum through the administrator section. Maybe this is causing my grief???

Hmmm... Strangely enough, that file, in the v2.0.8 install does happen to have v2.0.8 in it.

Might be worth trying.

I've attached said file, to save you messing around, finding it.

If any mods are installed using that file will cause a headache and make many of them stop functioning fully

Well we are making significant progress (I think). I contacted the web host again and said that someone with smf said something HAD to have been updated last night for it to suddenly stop. Sure enough, they had updated something....something for Wordpress that apparently interfered with the operation of smf.

Anyway my forum comes up now if you go to www.inthesulky.com/index.php

I can't really use anything, but have gotten the following message, probably due to the forum being uploaded from Saturday's backup:

Run a repair on that table from phpMyAdmin. You should be able to find that in the control panel of your host, usually.

Yes, Wordpress will indeed screw up a forum installation if some of the supposed "security" addons are  used.

This has been a very aggravating day. Thank you all so much for your help. I am an idiot among geniuses!

For some reason, I cannot get into PHP my Admin. I did do a database repair in My SQL databases. It is still not allowing me to upgrade the site to .20.8 because of the database needing upgraded.

At least the forum is up and running finally. Hopefully I will get it totally fixed later. This has been driving me crazy since 6:30 am.   :o

Forget that "Note", it's wrong and annoying.

For the rest, it's self explanatory... Your MySQL connection dropped. That's a server issue...

Ace-host is my host, but the server connection never really dropped. I was/am still connected.

Still cannot figure out why it is not allowing me to upgrade to 2.0.8.
