Menus don't work correctly

I just completed a new install. The install went smooth without any errors, however when I mouse over the menus at the top (Home, Help, Search, Admin, ect) the text appears but without background color. The outline of a drop down box appears but is transparent.

I had .htaccess and .htpasswd file in dir and didn't remove them when I done the install.
Removed them and now the world is good again.
