Well the title says it all. It only happens when you post a new topic, but not when you reply to it, etc. It will post the topic, but just wont redirect you. I have tried to fix it by doing the whole back-up thing, and going into the admin section and "fix errors", but the problem still remains. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since it's an internal server error have a word with your host about it, they may tell you if they have something in their logs, methinks :)

It's so powerful that on this post and even in the two PMs you sent me,you still answered my question very quickly and you're apologizing for the delay. You're the #1 support I've probably ever encountered man, so much respect for that. Thank you, and get better soon.

I'll keep this in my siggy for a while just to remind me that someone appreciated what I did while others didn't.

I have already contacted them and said that everything looked good on their end. They enabled error logging, but that is pretty much all I got out of them. I am running SMF 2.0.8, and have the following mods installed, but they never gave me any trouble as this is a recent development.

so - form that list, I see a .htaccess modifier and taptalk, which might be related to the issue.

The other issue might be related to the chmod permissions of certain files in the sources or theme directory

I'd be wondering what's in the server error log...

rob1986

I just updated Tapatalk, but I uninstalled it and still had the issue. I also get a 500 when trying to post on the tapatalk app.

rob1986

UPDATE: My host cleared and reset the htaccess and also turned up the memory from 40mb to 256 and also made the timeout longer, but still having the problem. Also uninstalled the mod effecting the htaccess but still having the problem. Starting to run out of options. Like I said, it started out of nowhere, so it is not like I installed a mod and it started happening....but I am thinking it might be the tapatalk?

rob1986

Would it be anything with permissions to the "post.php" file within the sources folder? I have not changed anything, just try to figure it out. I thought maybe it was corrupt, so I replaced the file with the original in the SMF forum archive for 2.0.8, and still had the problem.

rob1986

Here is the error I am getting when it tried to re-direct. How would I go about fixing this issue?

"[Sat Sep 27 09:10:04 2014] [10730012] [core:error] [client 94.xx.xx.xxx:xxxxx] AH00124: Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Use 'LimitInternalRecursion' to increase the limit if necessary. Use 'LogLevel debug' to get a backtrace."

Wasn't trying to bump. Updating. Will just edit recent post for now on.

Rob,

it's OK, actually...  your posts with updates are indeed updates and not bumps - and as such, are not a problem.

As for what's going on...   At this point, I have no idea except to say that it appears to be an issue on the host side of things.

That's screaming .htaccess, to me...

Got a weird .htaccess file?

I saw one, recently, that looked like this:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php !-d
RewriteRule ^user\/([a-zA-Z0-9_\-\.]+)/?$ /profile.php?username=$1 [L]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php !-d
RewriteRule ^friends\/([a-zA-Z0-9_\-\.]+)/?$ /friends.php?username=$1 [L]

It failed, with that very same error. When we changed it to:

# To externally redirect /public_html/foo.php to /dir/foo
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^GET\s([^.]+)\.php\s [NC]
RewriteRule ^ %1 [R,L]

# To internally forward /public_html/foo to /public_html/foo.php
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php -f
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^$
RewriteRule ^(.*?)/?$ $1.php [L]

It worked.

Have you got anything, like that, in your .htaccess file?

rob1986

This is what is in the .htaccess  file in my root:

addhandler x-httpd-php-cgi .php4
addhandler x-httpd-php5-cgi .php5
addhandler x-httpd-php5-cgi .php

Also while at work I tried to switch hosts and even imported my database .sql file and I couldn't get it to work, so I switched it back to the old host for now.

rob1986

Yes I am currently using godaddy. I know they suck, but I was given free hosting from my company so I used it to start the forum. I actually have not had any problems from them until now. I do have some hosting space over on iPage, which I am about to transfer over to. What do I need to do to fix the .htacces file on godaddy to get it to work?

kat

You could try removing those three lines, temporarily, to see what, if anything, happens, I guess...

rob1986

Just tried it.....nothing. I do not understand how this could come out of nowhere.  I can reply to topics without any problem, but as soon as you create one it hangs up. It is not like I have a lot of traffic, or posts constantly being created.

kat

Anything in the error-logs? (Either the SMF one or the server one)

rob1986

Nothing in the forum error logs.

...but I have this mess in the server error logs. More than usual today.

Those timeouts suggest, to me, that your host's changed something. Either upgraded a server, or summat, and didn't reset the configuration(s).

Give 'em a nudge. ;)

rob1986

Called a bunch of times and they said that everything they see "Looks fine". Tired of this. I even backed everything up and re-installed SMF. Still the same problem. Starting to think they are lying to me to make me feel like they know what they are doing. I swear, whoever does the server maint. must be lazy because I caught them once already because the server I was on at one point wasn't parsing .php files....

kat

rob1986

Well after everything I guess it was the SMF 2.0.8 update because stuff starting going wrong after the install. Just updated to 2.0.9 and everything works 100%. I guess that did the trick.

Please marked as SOLVED.

I really appreciate everyone that helped me in trying to solve this problem. Thanks again.
