database error

The hard drive on my server crashed on Sunday.The files were moved to a new server.Now when I try to access the site. I just get Database Error
Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator. I can't log in. I am using version 1.1.19. How can I upgrade to 1.1.20 or to the newest version manually because I can't login to admin. My host says the scripts are outdated. Thank you.

The error you have has nothing to do with your outdated version. There's something wrong with the database.

Check the table smf_log_errors, check the latest records, maybe there are more details there.
Also, check with phpmyadmin if there are any crashed tables.

if your host moved your database to a different server, you my have to update the server info in Settings.php.

Thank you for responding. I inherited this board. What need to be changed in Settings.php? I am a complete newbie. This was the old address for the board http://wellington-wef.com/sm/index.php?board=3.0,it now returns an error Incorrect key file for table 'smf_boards'; try to repair it.

margarett is correct, your forum is connecting to the database (Settings.php is ok) but it's damaged.  You need to find phpmyadmin in the MySQL database section of your host cpanel, you can repair tables from there.

Edit:  Your website loads, but the forum is not connecting to the db.  What have you changed?

I have not changed anything. This is the result of the host moving the files to another server.

No way can you import a v1.x database into a v2.x forum, I'm afraid.

Can you not repair the db in Cpanel>Databases? Or, phpmyadmin?

Seems to be more than one thing happening here.  The original error was displayed by the forum, so it was connecting to the db.  When I looked at the site Monday, forum was not connecting to the db.  Just took another look, and forum is again loading with db error.

Do you or your host have a backup of the db prior to the move?

If you can fix the database in your current version, then you can upgrade to 2.0.9.  You can't upgrade a trashed db.  Looks like a couple of key tables (smf_members and smf_boards) are corrupt.

Hello everyone. Thank you all for trying to help. My host is not worth a crap (onlinemalls.com). Had no valid backups.Lost another database as well. I am installing an old backup from a few months ago.
My quest now is to upgrade to version 2.0. Does any body have a dummies version of how to do this? Can it be done from admin? This week is alot like a New Orleans funeral.
