Themes for version 2.1
« on: November 21, 2014, 06:29:10 PM »
Hi

Is there any alternative theme on SMF 2.1?

Some themes are working but there is some code difference for ACP
can we try to fix that?

Thanks

I don't suggest using SMF 2.0 themes in SMF 2.1, we changed a lot and I strongly suggest you to wait some more (a week or two) new themes will come around.

Personally I don't suggest fixing themes but upgrading them, most of the SMF 2.0 themes still using block images while SMF 2.1 has HTML5/CSS3 standart.

themes for 2.0 should not even install on 2.1. if you had one you should uninstall it from the admin panel.

2.0 themes will also cause token errors if you find a way to use them.

I have seen one or two themes floating around for 2.1. I think one is for download...not sure about the other.  What they said above though should be listened to. Don't use 2.0 themes on 2.1 :)

EDIT: Here is one here:

@Bigguy: SMF 2.1 will not even permit a 2.0 theme to be installed without physically modifying files by hand specifically to head off this kind of comment.

Is there any information posted yet on how to upgrade them? I can't seem to find anything about "Curve versus Curve2" yet.

it is easier to create a new theme then it is to upgrade a 2.0 theme to 2.1. there are many changes that would take you longer to track down then to use 2.1 as your base and change from there.

Although I agree with that, there are many older themes that are from 2.0 which are no longer maintained or developed, and thus will never make it to 2.1, hence my interest in this. There are also other themes I have helped create or modify for specific communities which would be nearly-impossible to remake in 2.1 format, given the amount of work involved. I'd love to be able to maintain these, at least from the Curve versus Curve2 aspect. (Obviously custom themes will require much more work on top of this).

as i said there are many changes, not to mention adding tokens to the themes. it is not as easy as adding a few lines in a few files and old 2.0 themes will work with 2.1.

It *really* is easier to start building from Curve2 and modifying it to look like other themes than it is to mash either a 1.1 or 2.0 theme into 2.1.

I refute your supposition of 'nearly impossible to remake in 2.1 format' given that I've been known to make WordPress themes work on SMF, and if *that's* doable, going from 2.0 to 2.1 must by definition be easier.

I have looked into this and attempted converting a 2.0 theme to 2.1. Results - Much easier and less time to create a new 2.1 theme from scratch than to convert a 2.0 theme.
No, I will not offer free downloads to Premium DzinerStuido themes. Please stop asking.
