Following the upgrade of my sandbox environment to 2.1, I thought I would try to convert it to UTF-8 using the standard functionality under Admin/Maintenance/Forum Maintenance/Database.

This shows the message:

Your messages table is using a fulltext index for use when searching. You cannot proceed in converting to UTF-8 until that index is removed. You can re-create it after the conversion has been completed.

It is true that originally, there was FULLTEXT index on the body column of *_messages. I've since dropped this index though, but am still getting the same message.

Illori

remove the fulltext index for searching and recreate after converting.

As per my OP, I have now dropped the index.

Let me guess, you dropped the index manually rather than using SMF's configuration to do it?

Yup. Didn't even know the was a way of doing this through SMF. Where is that?
