i am new here. and i try to make my smf a little bit friendlier for the user . i am looking for  topic icons like this:

Er... As you've posted them, why not rip them off from that pic?

I think he's after help in putting them into the forum itself since there's no way to do that without mods (and the mod that struck me as being most appropriate, I couldn't find it any more )

Though there's no evidence it actually helps make it any easier to use.

Well, I'm not sure what you mean, sadly. But, have a look in your theme's "images" directory. You'll see lots of images. in there. There's also an "icons" directory, inside that one. You can replace any/all of those images, with some of your own, if you want to.

Yes, I realise that, hence I pointed out 'but that's out of date' - only no-one has prepared a more recent one, mostly because it doesn't actually help usability and there's been a lack of demand for it.

Yes, it's the newest and should work fine.

Except the OP wasn't after changing the board icons themselves, he wanted icons *next* to them like the picture.

Well, that's as close as I can come to that. He doesn't have to use it it was just a suggestion. It's up to him.

I do not understand what you mean. it works or not? And  is there somewhere a guide , what should I do to install this mod?

It works but you get a different result to the one you asked about.

Yes it works just fine. There is no problem with the mod at all. Install it through package manager but read the readme please. All instructions are there. If you get stuck PM me and I will help you out...or post here I guess. It does give different results than what you asked but is the closest thing I could think of.
