I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm in the Who's Online screen more than any other page on the system, constantly monitoring who and what/where, watching for telltale signs of issues to diagnose & studying search engine/spider activity...

The new version's Action column has caught my attention with the entries where it says the user is "In the xxxxxxx" or "Viewing the xxxxxxx" where the x's could be the name of a module or some other region of the system, some of the module entries have the traditional link incorporated in the entry, and some do not have a link. The one that spikes my interest right now is "Viewing the register" entries, I have no idea where to view the register to look at what the hell is so interesting about it LOL, most of the other entries are fairly self explanatory, and I'm certain its not when they are in the registration process, that section shows me they are indeed registering like the previous system versions...

I'm not totally sure but I assume it's register like "registration" ;)

actually in 2.1 any action will show even if the page does not exist. so they are trying to go to a page with action=register, in 2.1 this was changed to signup so the old page no longer exists.

@margarett As I said, already checked that using guest access, it displays the usual blurb when they actually register...

@illori Thanks, that explains it, so, many actions that behave this way are the result of old actions that won't function anymore? What does the associated user get in lieu of expected page? The index I presume? So if I manually reinsert the appropriate action tag back into the actions array & point it to the new function, it will take them where they expect? easy enough...

Yes, index.

And no, don't do that. Only bots and spammers will hit the registration page via action=register. Both both cases it doesn't matter so just leave it as it is ;)

Interesting, seems either I already did it or the old action was never removed to begin with. Not real important to me whether the user is a spider/spammer/robot/real user, I'm not sure if I like that an action performs different for the user based on that alone, people are too paranoid about spammers and spiders/robots are your friend seo related, yes? Seems to me that an action that doesn't perform as expected could hurt you with seo?

OK, here's one, what about an entry that says the user is "Viewing the httperror"? That can't be good, I don't see anything similar in the actions array except maybe xmlhttp, how would I track down what is triggering that one?

And the red balloons are great btw, very useful...

I just tested in my localhost and http://localhost/smf21/index.php?action=register shows me the index, as it should...

I just checked mine too, I must have reinserted the action=register myself because it actually performs what I prefer, it takes the user to registration process anyway, but its only on Who's Online where its displayed funky, no biggy probably could adjust language file to correct it but gonna bother as it does what I want it to do...

marking resolved...
