Groups management and timezone settings

I couldn't find this by search, so i hope it hasn't been posted before.

Having recently converted most of my main boards from phpBB to SMF (very happy thank you very much) i have run into one feature i would really like to see default in SMF.
The group moderator system of phpBB which allows you to appoint a moderator (although being able to appoint several would be an added plus) for a specific usergroup.
I am aware of the third party mod which will do this, and unfortunately it is not an option for some of the sites as the system admin will not permit third party mods to the forum.
I know that you can allow an admin group to manage groups, but this unfortunately gives a lot more power than is desired. Not only can they manage the group we want them to, but they can manage all groups, and add users to groups we definitely don't want them to be able to.

It really is the only feature Ive missed since moving from phpBB and i truly hope it will be considered for a release coming sometime soon :)

Second request is the profile timezone/offset setting.
This is something i found lacking in phpBB, and unfortunately i think its even more lacking in SMF.
I would really like to request that it be enhanced to give you a dropdown list of Timezones, and also allow for automatic adjustments of Daylight savings time.
As much as i hate to even mention its name, vBulletin has a really good way of dealing with this one.

If it is, i cant find it or im blind.

There is no dropdown list of Timezones to select from, only a field to manually enter your offset towards the server, and an auto detect link which autodetects a time offset that is 12 hours off.
There is also no button i can find to automatically account for Daylight time saving, which makes sense since there is no option to select what timezone you belong to.

Use my mod. If your admin won't allow it then that is their problem. Mine is completely secure.

And automatically setting the timezone has always worked for me.

While your mod is fine and dandy, its still a third party addon. As such many board will not wish to install it as its not part of the core forum nor written by the forum developers.

Its also worthy to point out that anyone wishing to migrate from phpBB will actually be loosing one of the very few "extended" functionalities phpBB offers. And in my opinion it would help make SMF more friendly towards phpBB migrators if it supported a feature they have grown accustomed to and dependant on.

Mods are nice and all, but until such time that SMF supports hooks (if ever), sourcecode modifications still must take place to integrate mods, and that simply isnt something many boards want to do for one reason or another.

On a side note, i thought this forum was for requesting addition of core features to SMF, not a place to be told what mods to install :(

I have to agree with past posters on this. I am an admin at another site that uses IPB software which enables timezone selection and the daylight savings time option. I just today added SMF to my own site. I am very new to all of this and have no idea how to set up the time for myself let alone my board visitors. It is very frustrating to login and see the board clock read 5:41 in a new post when the time is acutally 8:41. I imagine this is just as frustrating for my visitors as it is for me.

The previously mententioned drop down selection would be an added asset to this software. :D
