Valued SMF-Team and SMF-supporter,

Not sure if the current way is right understood.

It seems as if by installing a new update, the old language files will be replaced by the new and as far as seen, there is no such as a "report" of changes in detail.

Given that it is possible that one has modified the language file, those changes would be history if it is like that.

It would be maybe better, maybe it is like that already, to add just the new text strings and maybe replace "wrong" translated text strings, leaving the old untouched by default.

Not sure if such as a "report" of language changes is made and "easy" visible, such would make it maybe also easier to get translations for the new files.

As told, not sure how it actually works. Maybe it is useful.

if you use the patch file, it only changes/adds/deletes code as a mod would...

if you use the upgrade archive, then yes... it will replace EVERY FILE... as is should and as it is documented that it does.
Of course, that is only for English...  Changes for language files need to be manually applied (or the language pack re-loaded, which, of course, replaces everything... again, as intended and as documented.

Understandable and so as thought that it might be good. Just curious why:

1. there is no such as a change or mention in the patch file modified file (for example, there is still 2.0.4 mentioned even if you have patched up to 2.0.10)

2. Would it be not effective to promote the new additions and chances for each upgrade so that a translation could be fast and a share of language upgrades for others as the English one would be possible. Would be even possible before release as this are surely not much strings in each case and people desire to get a up-grate would surely like to help in advanced.

3. Its not easy to find any source of which has been changed in the language files or to find out of which level of actuality the current file is, if one likes to check and prove. One can only see that they are different even all of them carry for example 2.0.4.

not sure:

Quote from: http://download.simplemachines.org/?smflanguagesSimple Machines Forum has been translated into many languages. The english language is provided by default, and additional language packages can be downloaded from this page.

Just extract them into the same directory as the installation of SMF.

Desiring a actual stand, seeing "ohh may file is 2.0.4" and seeing "language_2.0.10", one could miss such intentions and follow the documents.

Kindred

There is no patch file for other languages... I just got through saying that.

It's readable, how ever it's the "Feature Requests" section at least and maybe some thoughts that might be helpful to reorganize some ways.

The version of actuality seems not to be patched even for English as well.

Kindred

The English patch is applied during the standard patch process, there is no separate patch just for languages.

Mr Kindred have told that already more than one time. How ever, there is no sign that such has happened. It would display the 1 versions status in the package manager as well as in the file it self:

form the maintenance routine:
QuoteSMF File    Your Version    Current Version
index.english-utf8.php    2.0.4    2.0.10
from the file:
Quote<?php
// Version: 2.0.4; Index
Seeing such, could cause one to look for a actual language file and then, seeing the downloads as below mentioned, download, install and over ride it.

Illori

english and english-utf-8 are 2 different languages. by default the utf-8 language is not patched.

sangham.net

Ahh! Thanks for the info, Mrs Illori. How every, maybe you'd like to put some "Features" into the future packages, actually it is about such here. But simply a request, not a demand at all, please never understand that wrong. More than gratitude of that what is given here and all the great effort.

How could the utf-8 be patched, taken the situation "I want to have it actual"?

sangham.net

Me dond kno way, there is a by

in all languages here, in Thai $txt['by'] = 'โดย';

Maybe such an issue (patch). But could not find not using english standad at all, since everybody tells utf-8 is the best to perform. Actually was thinking, that it must be a fix "by", since by exists everywhere (is maybe a language specific wish, on its modify (Grammer anywhere). If my whole speculation is right)
