Even though I am logged into the forum, when I click "Install Mod" it gives me this error:

I am the admin and logged in 100% of the time. Using Firefox. Is there a reason it is doing this, and a solution?

Please do not bump a topic in the first 24 hours. Especially as you have your own thread about it.

One of our volunteer tech support wizards will help as soon as they can.
DO NOT pm me for support!

Illori

wizards? we are not wizards ;)

maybe a mod security issue? http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Mod_security_-_Having_problems_with_mod_security cant hurt to ask your host to disable it if they are running it.

Steve

DO NOT pm me for support!

Sigyn

This did not work for me either.

And Sommer, this is my post for assistance, maybe you should use yours so you can get help specific to you.

Illori

did you ask your host if mod_security is enabled? most of the time they dont let users disable it.

sommarpojken

i fixed it! I did just change the Dns ip! maybe works for you too?

Sigyn

I have not fixed this yet and still need assistance. I cannot install the 2.0.11 Update because of this issue.

sommarpojken

Did you change your DNS ip? Mail your web host and ask what you should switch to.

You change it where you have your Web control.

Sigyn

sommarpojken

Ask you webhost if they can help you and tell them what the problem is!

John E:
Loops, hmm. I would assume based on what I'm hearing is either the files that handles installs (sounds like this) is messed up or not synced with your login. Or that your login doesn't have permission to install packages.
_____

That was what my host said. There was no issue with the DNS IPs but he flushed the data anyway and I'm still having the issue. I could use the help of a tech moderator, please.

Something is messing with your session and I've seen that before, let me search

actually, both of the host's suggestions are incorrect.

What mods do you have installed?
Can you PM me an admin login?

I created and uploaded the file (I think...) but I'm not sure what it means by calling it up once I have it there. Can you please enlighten me?

margarett

Please give us the link to it. We need to look at it, don't worry there is no sensitive information in it ;)

Im unfamiliar with dealing with these things... how do I go about linking you to it? ^^; Im sorry, I really am trying to help out here..

margarett

That page I linked you to describes how to create a phpinfo file. You should then upload the file (via FTP or your host's file manager) to somewhere in your webspace.
So if you called the file phpinfo.php and you put it in your forum root (where SSI.php is), the link to it would be
http://www.dragonsriseau.com/phpinfo.php

But I'm now sure that it's something related to your host and mod_security. I see that you are using hostgator and we have a bunch of issues with them and Package Manager.
Ask them (no, demand them) to disable mod_security.

I will go do that right now and get back to you! Thank you very much. ^^

Sigyn

They are basically forcing me to upgrade my hosting so that mod_security can be turned off. *sighs*

Kindred

yup....   also, they are preventing you from connecting and downloading directly from SMF...

Wow... hostgator just gets more and more poor in their attitude/service.

I logged in to confirm the same and I am indeed, as margarett, pretty certain this is a mod_security issue.

Well, thankfully my members chipped in and we are currently moving to a VPS and one of the techs whitelisted the mod_security rule for me (not sure what that means) so hopefully it will work once the transfer of data works. In 3 freaking days. ><;

margarett

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :o
Don't do that... Don't!!!

You don't NEED a VPS!!! Please go back and change to a decent host instead.

You don't need a VPS for this kind of traffic. Change hosts, keep a shared hosting plan, but choose a non-oversold host!

It's already done, hun D:
I can't undo it. ; ;

margarett

How come you can't? You always have a "trial" period where you can abort the contract.

That attitude by them it's disgusting. They have absolutely no shame in charging you a LOT of money for a service you don't need. May I ask how much you'll pay yearly for that VPS?

$191.52 for a year, $95.12 for 6mo.
I think I can actually revert... do you have a host you would suggest? I... can't do this with them anymore. They treated me like cow dung and I am not going to give my money to them.

margarett

We don't "endorse" any host over another. Check this board for known reputable hosts
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=155.0

It's not just the price (but it is too)... A VPS is a server on your hands. Which means software updates, security policies, weird configurations... And then, because you will not know how to manage all of that, you'll be paying them a *LOT* of money for the management service.
For the size of you forum a shared host is more than enough and you have good, skilled people taking care of these dark server tasks by you. And you save a lot of money. Win-win ;)

It really makes me angry how they have no shame in taking advantage of people. Dang!

Been sitting on hold for an hour while I wait for them to figure out how to give me a refund and reverse the VPS service. We have decided to host with https://www.tsohost.com/ who has specific forum hosting support for SMF. Which I'm hoping means no issues with mod_security.

margarett

You should ask them before you move ;) But I don't see "unlimited" stuff which is always a good thing :)
