When getting a backup from SMF itself, I get a *.gz file that's the same size as the SQL file is supposed to be, and sure enough, it's plain text that's not actually gzip'd. Any idea why it's giving me a *.gz file instead of some error? Have I discovered a reportable bug?

I'm using SMF 2.0.11, and it's running on FreeBSD.

we dont recommend using the database backup from the admin panel. it is known for giving an incomplete backup. you should use phpmyadmin or other tools provided by your host to do a backup.
